These words found in John 14 were spoken by our Lord Jesus Christ to a group of disciples who sensed that their world was changing in ways they did not welcome.  We can certainly relate to the disciples’ angst, as this year has presented some huge challenges.  More than ever, circumstances in our world have trended in a disturbing direction, as the Covid-19 pandemic affects literally everything about our lives.  Schools and businesses have been shut down.  Masks have become a part of our everyday attire and we have all probably used gallons of hand sanitizer.  Worst of all, lives have been cut short and many have suffered greatly at the hands of this virus. It is easy to see the toll this has taken on so many in our community and across the world.
Yet, through all of this, we find in Christ a peace that passes all understanding. And even in a constantly changing environment, the ministry of Porterfield has remained strong.  The reason?  We have a strong and trustworthy anchor for the soul (Hebrews 6:19). We resonate with the words of Psalm 112:7 which declares of God’s people that “they do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them.”   What we know as Christians is that we can be unafraid, and we can be unshaken, because our lives are rooted in Christ.
The ministry of Porterfield has continued to bless countless people because you as a church family have continued your faithful financial support.  What an amazing demonstration that you are indeed unafraid and unshaken!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!  As we plan for 2021, we are asking that you make a commitment to support the Lord’s ministry at Porterfield. Enclosed with this letter is a pledge card, sometimes called a faith promise card.  When we receive your pledge card, we can solidify our ministry plans for the coming year.  Together, we can offer Jesus’ presence in a time when so many are considering spiritual matters for perhaps the very first time. Further, you as a believer can make a covenant with the Lord and promote a pattern of generosity for yourself that disciples of Jesus have always found is a pathway to joy.
Will you pray about how you can support the church financially?  There are several ways to respond and make your commitment.  You can:
1)      Turn in the pledge card on Sunday, November 15 in either the 9 am or 11 am service
2)      Return the pledge card by mail with the enclosed envelope

We remain unshaken.  We remain unafraid.  Why?  Because our Lord is sovereign, loving, and good.  And His grace will always be sufficient to carry us through any trials. (2 Corinthians 12:9).
Porterfield will continue to minister to our community and our world.  We will continue to fulfill the calling God has upon us as believers.  We look forward to an excellent and joyful year of ministry ahead!
Faithfully yours,
