Missions and Outreach

Porterfield is a mission minded church. Our heart is helping both the local community and the world. We support numerous ministries monetarily and physically through volunteers. Porterfield has sent four well drilling teams to foreign countries in order to provide clean water, and are currently planning to send more teams. Through our 2552 Challenge we have collected more than 6,000 items for those in need. We are constantly working to show the love of God to the world.

There are numerous ways to get involved in our missions and outreach ministry.

Opportunities to Get involved

  • Well Drilling teams

We take clean water for granted, but for large populations in the world clean water is scarce. We have sent four well drilling teams out so far and are making plans to send more in the future. These trips are week long trips, typically in South American countries. Because of the generosity of our congregation, most of the cost is covered by the church. Our next trip is in November to El Salvador!

  • S.E.W.N. Sunday evening with our Neighbors

SEWN is a partner ministry through Albany First United Methodist Church that serves the less fortunate in Albany by providing a meal. Porterfield provides the meal and volunteers on the 5th Sunday of certain months. If you are interested in participating Whitney Newman is our SEWN coordinator. Please Fill Out This Volunteer Form If You Are Interested In Participating!

  • Loads of Love

More then a laundry ministry, Loads of Love is about relieving a burden and showing people the love of Christ. As close to a random act of kindness as you can get, we take one day a month and provide those who are in need with free laundry services. If you are interested in volunteering please fill out the form below or call the church office.

  • 2552 Challenge

Throughout the year we will issue a challenge to the entire congregation to collect items of need for specific ministries. We call it the 2552 CHALLENGE for every member to be involved. In the past we have collected canned food items for "Love Thy Neighbor" food pantry,  pairs of shoes for Soles4Souls, and bags of pet food for the animal shelter and area Humane Societies.
