Discipleship and spiritual growth are essential to living as a follower of Christ. Porterfield provides numerous opportunities for a person to grow, all of these ministries are open for anyone to become apart of. For more information about any of these programs email:


    In-depth Bible study meets Wednesdays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.-12 p.m., and Sundays from 4-6 p.m. from September until May. These studies usually include DVDs, discussion, and weekly study guides. Other formation events are announced as scheduled throughout the year.

    A Bible Study on Adam Hamilton’s Moses, In the Footsteps of the Reluctant Prophet,  will meet in the Parlor starting Wednesday, September 6, at 

    9:30 a.m. and Sunday, September 10, at 4 p.m. Books are 

    available in the church office or will be available at the first class.

    DISCIPLE FAST TRACK BEGINS SEPTEMBER 13 - Fast Track is an adaptation of the original, bestselling Disciple Bible Study: Becoming Disciples through Bible Study. It is ideal for busy people who wants to fit a comprehensive Bible study into their schedule. Classes meet for a total of 24 weeks, studying the Old and New Testaments for 12 sessions each. Weekly sessions last 75 minutes.

    Kaye McIsaac will be leading this class every Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. The cost is $20 per person. This covers the participant book and other supplies for the class. Register for this class with Leslie DeVane in the Ministries Office (D-104) .

    SURPRISED BY HOPE BIBLE STUDY - will begin on Tuesday, 

    September 19. It will be held on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. in the Alpha Class. The study is Surprised by Hope by N.T. Wright.  It will be taught by Pastor Robert and Cary Stoudenmire.


    An intercessory prayer group meets every Wednesday from 4-5:30 p.m in the Parlor. This is open to anyone interested in praying for the concerns in the church and writing prayergrams to individuals and families to let them know their church cares and prayers are being lifted in their behalf.


    The United Methodist Men are a core group of men partnering with our pastors to invite and initiate spiritual growth opportunities for all men of our church and community. The focus is not inward, but outward to all men, assisting them in engaging the process of spiritual growth.


    The United Methodist Women is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. Meetings at Porterfield are held from September through May with a general luncheon meeting every second Tuesday at 11:45 a.m. in the fellowship hall. UMW Circles are smaller group meetings held at specific times each month.

    Join us monthly on the first Tuesday for XYZ - a luncheon for our senior adults. No reservation is required.
