Dear Porterfield Family,
Our Lord is in control! We urge everyone to remain grounded in the certainty of God’s love and sovereignty in these unusual times. Jesus’ words in John 14 are as on point as ever as he reminds us to “let not your hearts be troubled.” Porterfield has assembled a Coronavirus Response Team to make wise decisions for our congregation as this global pandemic plays out.
We are connected in Christ in many meaningful ways at Porterfield. We worship together, serve together, pray together, and enjoy the abundant life He has given us in so many ways. This must continue, just as it did during severe weather events and other contingencies. However, because of the increased risks that come with public gatherings for our body of believers, we are implementing the following modifications. These decisions are in concert with guidance that has been released by the CDC and other public health organizations. Please take note of these instructions, effective March 13.
Sunday morning worship will be limited to streaming online at 9 and 11 a.m. for the remainder of March. Therefore, please plan on joining us online on March 15, 22, and 29. The services will be available at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Facebook Live or on this site. Click “Online Services” at the top right on your screen. Click on Watch Live Now, then click “Click to Watch Live!”
Sunday School will not be held. Be on the lookout for materials and discussion questions that we will send out via e-mail and Facebook posts inviting spiritual reflection for you and other sisters and brothers in Christ.
Pastoral care and visitation will occur in emergency situations but may be accommodated through phone calls or video chats. We have heard (not confirmed) that an Albany minister has contracted the Coronavirus and Phoebe has issued a severe limitation on clergy visits.
The Children’s Musical originally scheduled for March 18 has been moved to April 22.
After school events and other activities are suspended until further notice.
Please continue to pray and extend grace to everyone. If you are sick, please get medical treatment and avoid putting others at risk. Porterfield will continue to monitor the situation as developments occur. God WILL see us through all of this.
Yours in Christ,
Porterfield UMC Coronavirus Response Team
